What does the error "Not enough nodes to reprotect" mean?

Rupert Harwood -

If you receive the error "Not enough nodes to reprotect" while flexing down, this is the cluster informing you that there are not enough remaining nodes for each REPLICA of a SLICE of a table to live on a unique node.

For example if you have a table with the setting REPLICAS=5 and you flex down from 5 to 4 nodes there are now more replicas for each slice than unique nodes for the replicas to reside on.

To resolve this alert alter the table to have replicas less than or equal to the number of nodes in the cluster.

By default tables are created with REPLICAS=2 so this should only be encountered with non-default table replica settings.
